Choosing The Right Golf Swing Plane

There are two different golf swing planes you can chose from when playing golf. These planes are opposites of each other and are used for different things as a flat plane produces more power while an upright plant provides greater accuracy.

These swing planes require different physical strengths and postures so you may prefer one over the other. To make this swing natural you will need to practice it again and again until you do not have to think about it to perform the swing.

Before you can even begin to work on the swing plane you need to be using a proper golf swing and there are three parts to work on; the golf back swing, the golf downswing and the follow through of your swing. Before you can work on the different golf planes you need to be able to perform a perfect swing every time using muscle memory. It is good to see yourself in a mirror or to tape yourself when swinging to see what needs improvement.

The flat swing plane is a more powerful swing as your arms will move all the way around the body. The twisting motion of moving from the back swing to the front of the swing generates the power that will be transferred to the golf ball. In order to perfect this swing the shoulders and arms need to be moving as one. To get a lot of power you need to have excellent abdominal strength.

The upright plane focuses more on accuracy and you will have a more upright position than with the flat plane. The arms and shoulders actually rise up at the top of the back swing so you get a gap between your body and the arms. While the ball will not have as much spin or power in it your shots will be right on target.

It is important to remember the different positions needed in each part of the swing depending on the golf swing plane you are using. Many professionals will specialize in one plane while others may switch between the two. It is up to you to figure out how you want to use the different planes.

It is recommended that you do not try to learn this on the golf course as you will only mess up your game. Instead master the swing off the course until you are completely comfortable with it and then bring it out on the course.
