A Catastropy in the Making?
These are some statistics on health care insurance in the United States. In 2001, Americans spent a record 1.4 trillion on health care. That figure is expected to grow to 3.1 trillion dollars by 2012.
In 2001 14 cents out of every dollar in the US was destined for health care. In 2012, it is projected to be almost 18 cents. In the first three years of the 2000s double digit increases were the norm.
Add to this the increase in copayments and deductibles and you have a catastrophe in the making. Rising health insurance costs ensure that less people will actually be covered because they simply can’t afford it.
