How much money do Cartoon animators make in a month?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Just curious because this is the job I’m interested in getting when I get out of school.

Most of the traditional animation on TV is done in Korea at the moment. Character and story design are done in the states. Computer animated cartoons have a few different places..CA, AZ, TX being three of the biggest areas for it. In the beginning, new hires don’t do a lot of main character animation…you would be doing in-betweens, backgrounds and touch up work. The pay is not as high as most people think it is until you move up in the food chain and then only if you have a hit series. Most beginning animators make $30,000 a year and it is hit or miss work. If you are interested in it now, it is time to find out what qualifications certain studios are looking for , what skills are most in demand and start drumming up any info you have from contacts on new shows just starting.

Do animators workin at Pixar go on a contract basis?

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

So i was wondering, those 3d computer animators working at dreamworks or pixar.. are they on a contract? How’s the job stability?

Pixar is in tremendous shape since they re-signed with Disney. They are hired flat out, as I have not heard of them parcelling out assignments to other studios

I am an artist and I use any pencil that feel good in my hand. (((((A HINT))))) You can shape the lead of your pencil to the degree of the mark on the paper, which makes the line darker or lighter, smoother or smudgy, thin or thick…… Try it, you just mine discover something you are looking for….. Good Luck

Do animators have to know how to draw very well? Or can they just use the computer?

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Also where can they get jobs?

not necessarily…some of my professors did not know how to draw…you can make up for that shortcoming by using images as references for what you’re animating. they can get jobs in advertising, film, gaming, architecture (walk-thorughs) and so on.

Are Animators Closet Homosexuals, or just really sensitive?

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

My neighbor cries everytime he sees an episode of "Gay Bob" on Nick at Nite.

What’s up with that?

having come from a school of animation, i would have to say that, although strange animators are not closet homosexuals. it is unfair to generalize though.

this neighbor of yours obviously is just very in touch with his feelings. this is good because feelings and mood help when creating art. i would guess he is very manly though. probably looks a little like a pirate too.

I was wondering, does anyone know what program animators use to create shows like Family Guy or Simpsons?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I would really like to know because Im writing a paper on animation and animators, thanks :)
Well it really depends what is the studio pipeline like… Plus various programs are used on a given production. For example, it could start with Xsheet for line tests, ToonBoom, Retas Pro or some other softwares for scan + line process + colouring. Sorry to be of so little help but the question is a bit too broad for a specific answer.
You might have better luck reading and asking around on awn.com. Good luck!

Do animators also get to write some part of the disney stroy?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Like who writes the DIsney Story? Can an Animator, or do you have to be a writer?

Most of Disney animation is contracted out to Chinese animators. Screenwriters, protected by the Writers Guild of America, surely have domain over the scripts (to the extent that their corporate bosses allow them).

I’m looking for a few good Flash Animators with spare time to help with a project?

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I’ve got a few ideas rolling around my head for some good flash video projects for Newgrounds.com but I can’t really draw. It wouldn’t be a paid project and there’s no contract or anything like that. If anyone who reads this knows of any good flash artist please have them email me at animefreakjon@yahoo.com and thank you.

I’d be happy to help
