I am about to graduate from Art Institute of Dallas in the Media Arts and Animation program. Pixar has extremely high standards so it's good that you have decided this early so you will have a head start. You need a degree in animation, and I do not believe there is a Pixar college- I have several teachers who worked there, haha. A character animator is basically an actor with knowledge of the principles of animation. I would recommend studying all kinds of animation, it will only make you a stronger artist. We use a program called Maya.
Some good animation schools to look into would be CalArts, Savannah, and Ringling.
