What was the first animated film ever made?

I’ve been curious about this for a while, and have done some searching on my own,
but it seems that every time that I think I’ve found the first animated film there’s always one before it.
"Humorous Phases of Funny Faces" is the latest one I’ve discovered (1906).
So my question is, is that the first or are are there others before it?

I think you are correct, "Humorous Phases of Funny Faces" was the first.

Well, you’re way ahead of me in your research. I was still thinking of Walt Disney, back when Mr. Disney was still alive just developing his cartoons, etc., and I thought that was back in the 1950s, so, you’re waaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of me. Sorry I couldn’t have been of more help.

there was a british advertisement listed before that 1899 maybe? check website below…the funny faces comes from the US I believe
