2D/3D Helicopter (Augmented Reality)
A 2D Helicopter played in a video turns into a 3D Helicopter that can go behind or in front of the video. It is far easier to look at the video than to try to understand the text above !

you’re right, just …
you’re right, just thinking about simplicity, one lens 2 angles = less parts but more motion, so the fewer parts is probably negated by the proneness to failure of the actuators. but hey if there is only one hole in the wall, depending on how close you were to it, you could only use one eye at a time to look through it

IMO, the overlay …
IMO, the overlay between the L and R images with a single tilted lens would be too small, just as if you were looking with your two eyes through a hole in the wall. Two (or more !) lenses are still the best way I think.

wonder if a single …
wonder if a single lens could be actuated rapidly enough left-right tilt from the rear of the lens so the pivot is behind the focal plane to generate divided L-R images for depth data which could be split for parallax or anaglyph, the ultimate is to have this all occur without having to view it through a secondary display or glasses of any type, just a projection device that can generate dynamic full color holographs in standard air.
